How often do you need nobivac rabies vaccine? ›

The duration of immunity for Nobivac Rabies is 3 years. Can Nobivac Rabies be used in pregnancy? Can be used during pregnancy in dogs. There is no laboratory data on use during pregnancy in other species, but on basis of field experience, such use is expected to be safe.

Nobivac DP Plus is a veterinary vaccine used to protect dogs against two separate infections caused by canine distemper virus and canine parvovirus. Nobivac DP Plus contains the active substances live attenuated (weakened) canine distemper virus (CDV) and canine parvovirus (CPV).

In most states, your puppy will receive their first vaccination when they are between 14 and 16 weeks old, followed by a booster shot one year later. After that, your dog should receive a rabies booster every 1-3 years, depending on state law and the type of vaccine used.

Around 95% of people who have 3 doses of the rabies vaccine will have some protection from rabies. How long the protection lasts can vary, but it usually lasts at least 1 or 2 years. People at continued risk of rabies may need 1 or more booster doses of the rabies vaccine to make sure they stay protected.

At Priory, we use the Nobivac Myxo/RHD Plus vaccination which thankfully offers good protection against both strains for our patients. Similar to Myxomatosis, RHD is contracted from close contact with infected rabbits and biting insects.

For dogs, we have chosen the safest vaccine on the market, Merial IMRAB which is thimerosal-free. After your dog's first year this only needs to be given every 3 years.

Soreness, redness, swelling, or itching at the site of the injection, and headache, nausea, abdominal pain, muscle aches, or dizziness can happen after rabies vaccine. Hives, pain in the joints, or fever sometimes happen after booster doses.

Can I take rabies vaccine without a dog bite? ›

Rabies vaccine is given to persons who have been exposed (eg, by a bite, scratch, or lick) to an animal that is known, or thought, to have rabies. This is called post-exposure prophylaxis. Rabies vaccine may also be given ahead of time to persons who have a high risk of getting infected with rabies virus.

Veterinarians and other veterinary professionals working with susceptible animals, particularly in endemic areas, should receive rabies pre-exposure prophylaxis. Zoo staff should receive pre-exposure prophylaxis if they work with susceptible species, especially those without a licensed vaccine.

Nobivac Rabies is an inactivated vaccine containing ≥ 0.95 AIU* equivalent to ≥ 2 IU** rabies virus strain Pasteur RIV per 1ml dose. It also contains aluminium phosphate as an adjuvant and 0.1mg thiomersal as a preservative.

A single booster dose can be taken when required to provide an additional 10 years of cover. Rabies is a very serious disease and immunised individuals should still visit a hospital should an incident occur. The reason for this is obvious.

You should receive 2 doses of rabies vaccine given on days 0 and 7. Depending on your level of risk, you may be advised to have one or more blood tests or receive a booster dose within 3 years after the first 2 doses. Your health care provider can give you more details.

Revaccination: Subsequent revaccination every 3 years with a single dose is recommended.
